The Joint Students’ Body (JSB), Lamka, Churachandpur district stated that the damaged of power lines to Churachandpur has left the district without electricity for the past five days,
The Manipur government had imposed a prohibition against any deliberate act of renaming districts, subdivisions, places, institutions and addresses without the approval of the state government.

One must understand that the official name of a place cannot be changed at one’s whims more particularly in official correspondences and functions. And it is not only in Churachandpur, but in other districts individuals and groups have tried to change the names of places.
Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF) said it will continue to monitor the situation and will issue a public notice if intense agitation is required.
The shutdown volunteers set up barricades in many places in the town, where the streets remained completely deserted with all educational institutions and government offices closed.
Community Development Society (CDS), in collaboration with the Joint Students’ Body, Lamka visited seven relief centres in the heart of the Lamka town on Saturday.
Some miscreants have removed the word 'Churachandpur from Churachandpur Medical College to “Lamka Medical College”.
The day is observed every year after nine tribals laid down their lives on August 31, 2015 in protest against passing of three anti-tribal bills namely, Protection of Manipur People Bills 2015, Manipur Land Revenue and Reform (7th Amendment) Bill 2015 and Manipur Shops and Establishment (2nd Amendment) Bill 2015 in the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
