Churachandpur shutdown peaceful

The total and indefinite shutdown in Churachandpur district called by the Joint Students Body of Lamka and ITLF against the arrest of four persons by the CBI on Sunday was peaceful with no untoward incidents reported till the time of filing this report.

It may be mentioned that the womenfolk and JSB, Lamka are protesting the apprehending of six individuals, including the two minors who were later released by the CBI team from Churachandpur. The protest is being carried out at the gate of SP Churachandpur office from Sunday evening.

No shops were seen open and there were no vehicular movements except for the few exempted ones such as water supply, press etc.

Meanwhile, different organisations like Hmar students Association, KSO, ITLF etc. issued releases, vehemently condemning the arrests made by the CBI, terming it an ‘abduction’, calling it a gross violation of human rights and an affront to the principle of justice and humanity. They demanded safe return of the four including the two minors.

Late in the afternoon, members of JSB, Lamka hanged an effigy at the Anglo kuki centenary gate, Leisang, Churachandpur which depicted that justice was denied to the Kuki-Zomi-Hmar community of Manipur.
