Amid the unrest in Manipur, suspected tribal miscreants in Churachandpur district are reportedly changing signboards which read “Churachandpur” to “Lamka” in an attempt seen as denouncing the name of the district named after Maharaja Churachand Singh.
Since Monday, suspected tribal miscreants of Churachandpur had been vandalising and destroying signboards which reads “Churachandpur” with the intention of changing it to “Lamka”, which they claimed is the original name, a release said.
Miscreants are carrying out vandalism with the intent of denouncing the name of the district which was named after the erstwhile Meitei King Maharaja Churachand Singh, it alleged.
Some miscreants have also erased the word “Churachandpur” from the signboards of the Churachandpur Medical College and changed it into “Lamka Medical College”, it added.
