Seven new piggery/pig farms in Imphal East districts have been reported for the outbreak of the African Swine Fever.
While the outbreak of ASF has taken a heavy toll on the piggery industry, resulting in the tragic death of numerous pigs, it has also raised environmental concerns due to the negligent disposal of the carcasses.
People for Animals (PFA) Manipur warned not to dump dead pigs in the river and appealed to seek help from the district administration and district veterinary office to properly dispose of the pigs.

"Many farmers get financial loans for piggery business; however, with the mass death of pigs, farmers are facing a major issue and most of them are unable to pay the debts."
The state Veterinary department was supposed to be on extreme alert for any outbreak of swine flu and measures put in for checking the pigs of Myanmar import and pigs in our farms, which they declined to do.
According to a notification issued by the deputy commissioner of Tengnoupal on Tuesday, no live pigs or pork will be allowed to be brought into the state.
