Manipur: Three more ASF epicentres identified in Bishnupur

No pig to be moved from the place where it is kept within the controlled areas.

Three more epicentres of the African Swine Fever (ASF) have been identified in the district of Bishnupur leading to the district administration to declare containment areas in the said geographical areas.

An order by Lourembam Bikram, District Magistrate/ DC, Bishnupur on Wednesday stated that as per the Notification No. Misc-103/1/2021-Vety-VETY & AH dated November 21 of the Secretariat, Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Department, Government of Manipur, the outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) in Pigs at the farms of Laishram Priyokumar Singh of Ningthoukhong Ward No.3, Bimex Akoijam of Maibam Chingning Leimaram Lamkhai and Lairenjam Mani Meitei of Utlou Awang Leikai, Bishnupur District have been confirmed.
In view of the impending threat of the disease, it has become expedient to issue containment measures to prevent spread of the disease in the areas, the magistrate said.

Hence, the magistrate notified with immediate as “Controlled Areas” for African Swine Fever (ASF) at the farms of Laishram Priyokumar Singh of Ningthoukhong Ward No.3, Bimex Akoijam of Maibam Chingning Leimaram Lamkhai and Lairenjam Mani Meitei of Utlou Awang Leikai, Bishnupur District.

Moreover, under Section 7 of “The Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Diseases in Animals Act, 2009”, the magistrate issued containment measures in the geographical areas with immediate effect and stated that no pig shall be moved from the place where it is kept within the controlled areas and bans on sale of pig, pork, feed and related items.

Further, the areas falling within one km radius from the Epicentre of the disease are declared as “Infected Zones” and areas falling within nine km radius from the Infected zones are hereby declared as “Surveillance Zones” for taking up control and containment procedures and areas falling outside the “Surveillance Zones” are declared as “Free Zones”, the order of the magistrate stated.

Any persons/Institution/Organisation found violating any of these containment measures shall be deemed to have committed an offence punishable under the said Act, the magistrate said.
