Manipur: More African Swine Fever epicentres in Imphal

Additional deputy commissioner, Imphal West on Thursday notified the epicentres and the infected zones of the outbreak of ASF under the district.

Based on the laboratory report confirming the outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) in pigs in certain locations under Imphal West, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry department, Government of Manipur notified certain areas of Imphal West as controlled areas for African Swine Fever.

Additional deputy commissioner, Imphal West on Thursday notified the epicentres and the infected zones of the outbreak of ASF under the district.

The epicentre of the district are the farms of Tonjam Arunkumar Singh, Lilong Chajing. Mamang Leikai, Latitude: 24.719 N, Longitude: 93.9331°E, L. Vidyasagar Singh, Konthoujam Maning Leikai Latitude: 24.7452"N, Longitude: 93.8477°E, Ch. Dhruvatara Khaba, Loitang Khunou Latitude: 24.8755°N, Longitude: 93.8528 E, Ch. Dhruvatara Khaba, Luker, Latitude: 24.7908'N, Longitude: 93.8424°E and L. Laingam Singh, Sairemkhul Latitude: 24.8181 N, Longitude: 93.8077°E. 

As per the provisions of the ‘Prevention and Control of Infectious and contagious Disease in Animals Act, 2009’, the areas with 1km radius from the pig farms of the above mentioned epicentres have been notified as infected zones. And, the areas within 10km radius from the pig farms have been notified as surveillance zones.

Whereas, the above-mentioned epicentres and areas within 10km radius of each epicentre are required to declare as controlled area for ASF with immediate effect to effectively prevent, control and eradicate the scheduled diseases, it said.

The notice prohibited movement of pigs (dead or alive) and movement and sales of pork and feed within the infected zone and materials that could have contacted the infected or suspected to be infected animals.

It further added that culling of all pigs of the infected zone should be done by the officials of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry department, Manipur by following protocols. 

All equipment/tools as well as vehicles used in the farms that are having pigs, either infected or suspected to be infected should be restricted from movement without following proper protocols.

Any person who contravenes the provisions of the act or obstructs the competent officer in performing duties under the act shall be held guilty of an offence and punishable under the under the act, it mentioned.
