Traffic along the National Highway-29, also known as Kohima-Dimapur road, resumed on Friday from 6 am to 10 am and from 2 pm to 5 pm. This routine will continue everyday till further notice.
It can be recalled here that following heavy rockslides which occurred at New Chumoukedima along Dimapur-Kohima road (National Highway-29) on February 2, the district administration of Dimapur had restricted traffic along the highway. The location where the rockslides had occurred is a few kilometres away from Dimapur.
On Thursday, February 11, a review meeting on the traffic restriction was held where Nagaland Governor RN Ravi had expressed his concerns over the “untold hardships facing the public due to the continuing traffic restrictions on the highway.”
According to a press release from the PRO to the Governor, RN Ravi expressed his displeasure to the contractors for “reckless rock blasting which is the cause of the heavy rock slide”.
Meanwhile, the decision to reopen the highway partially was taken during the Thursday’s review meeting.
