A day after heavy security forces were sent to Tamenglong by the Manipur government to carry out an operation in response to the alleged killing of forrmer Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN) president Athuan Abonmai, additional forces were reportedly disptached to the district on Friday.
On Thursday, security forces, including COs of five battalions, led by IGP Zone 2 K Jayanta were disptached to Tamenglong district from Imphal before 12 pm after they gathered at 1st MR ground.
The additional strength comprising a large number of security personnel led by ADGP Law and order, and intelligence Ashutosh Sinha of Manipur Police left Imphal for Tamenglong on Friday morning, as per sources.
The team included commando personnel from four valley districts as well as teams of special commando units, the sources added.
Abonmai was killed allegedly by suspected NSCN (I-M) members at Pallong Village under Tamei Police station, Tamei sub-division in Tamenglong district on Wednesday in the wake of Chief Minister N Biren Singh's visit to the district.
