Heavy security forces have been deployed in Tamenglong on Thursday by the state government after former president of Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN) Athuan Abonmai was shot dead allegedly by suspected NSCN (I-M) members at Pallong Village under Tamei Police station, Tamei sub-division in Tamenglong district on Wednesday.
As per sources, the security forces, including COs of five battalions, led by IGP Zone 2 K Jayanta were disptached to Tamenglong district from Imphal before 12 pm after they gathered at 1st MR ground.

As per an order issued by DGP LM Khoute of Manipur Police, a team of CO- 5th MR left Imphal for Tamenglong district at around 9 am. Afterwards, additional forces led by IGP Zone-2 K Jayanta left Imphal from 1st MR ground.
The COs in the team are of 4-IRB, 5-IRB, 6-IRB and 7-IRB. A company led by three JCOs of 7th MR led by one gazetted officer was also a part of the team.
To take a key role in the operation led by IGP Zone-2, Police commandos from four valley districts as well as from the special commando unit placed at Nungba were also taken along.
The police commandos include four teams led by one gazetted officer from Imphal East; four teams from Imphal West; four teams from Bishnupur; four teams from Thoubal and four teams lead by one gazetted officer of special commando unit from Nungba.

SP Tamenglong has been issued prior notification for making necessary arrangements of food and accommodation for the police forces that will be arriving in the district.
Assam Rifles already deployed at the area have been also given information by the DGP to keep smooth coordination during the operation to be carried out under the command of IGP K Jayanta.
Sources said that police forces are keeping a target of seven days to carry out the operation. The period may be extended if deemed necessary, sources added.
