The Joint Tribes Council (JTC) on Thursday stated that it strongly condemned the killing of former Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN) president Athuan Abonmai after he was abducted by some unknown persons on Wednesday.
The JTC stated in a statement that it had earlier appealed for his safe and early release, but his body was recovered by the villagers from a forest area near Pallong village of Tamei sub-division, Tamenglong district.
Sharing the grief and sorrow of the bereaved family, the JTC mentioned that whoever committed the dastardly act should come out with their claim and reasons behind the act.

Athuan Abonmai was allegedly abducted from Tamenglong district headquarters on Wednesday afternoon. He was found dead in Pallong village under Tamei police station in Tamei sub-division. The incident took place in the wake of Chief Minister N Biren Singh's visit to Tamenglong.
Athuan Abonmai hailed from Lamlaba village under Tamei police station in Tamei sub-division, Tamenglong district. He was residing in Imphal. The abductors reportedly killed him before reaching his native village in Pallong village.

Police sources said that Tamenglong police team had rushed to the spot and are stationed at Lamlaba village. Meanwhile, his body has been taken to Imphal for post mortem.
