India today has 75 Ramsar sites, including Loktak Lake in Manipur and Pala Wetland in Mizoram, covering an area of 13,26,677 ha spread across several states.

With the recognition of five new wetlands of international importance, the total number of Ramsar sites in India has increased from 49 to 54.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that it is a matter of pride for the country that four Indian sites got Ramsar recognition.
