An 11 year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped by a non-local staying at a rented house at Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak on June 10.
According to SI Marchang, the accused was alleged to have had committed sexual assault against the 11-year-old girl in December 2020 while he was engaged in a house construction work in Kamjong district.
The body of the gangrape victim is lying at RIMS hospital morgue as nobody has claimed it till date and it is decomposing fast, a release stated.
The commission also appeals to all social media users to not post photographs or reveal the identity of the deceased while reminding them that they can be given severe punishment under the Juvenile Justice(Care and Protection of Children) Act 2000.
The investigation of the case has been handed over to a Special investigation Team (SIT) headed by additional SP, Investigative Unit for Crime Against Women (IUCAW), Rattana Ngasepam.
The-old accused was arrested by a team of women police from his residence on Thursday night after a written complaint was filed by the victim’s father around 10 pm.
The accused was produced before the Special Judge POCSO at Senapati who remanded him to judicial custody till July 27.
A 17-year old minor girl from Moirang who was on her way to meet a man from Kolkata was rescued by a team of Childline Bishnupur, New Life Foundation Manipur volunteers along with family members and relatives from Imphal airport on Wednesday.
