Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) has urged the state government to book the perpetrators involved in connection with the death of a minor girl who was allegedly raped by four people on September 1 in Mayang Imphal at the earliest possible.
In order to set an example to eradicate the alarming rate for crime against women in the state, the commission also requested the state government to do everything in their capacity to take up necessary actions immediately and ensure justice to the deceased girl and her family.
A release by chairperson of the commission, professor Binota Meinam on Monday stated that the commission also appeals to all social media users to not post photographs or reveal the identity of the deceased while reminding them that they can be given severe punishment under the Juvenile Justice(Care and Protection of Children) Act 2000.
The release stated the members of the commission condemn such inhumane acts in the strongest term and demand justice for the deceased girl.
Meanwhile, Social and Educational Welfare Organisation (SEWO) appealed to the government to give capital punishment to those involved in the crime.
A release stated that the main accused and few other accused persons are in police custody. However, no further actions were taken up under the law. The organisation expects the accused to be given appropriate punishment under the law so as to give justice to the family of the victim as well as set an example to prevent such incidents in future, it added.
SEWA will not tolerate if the case is delayed for long or the accused are bailed out with the help of higher authority connections, if any, it stated. This is the time to unite the public, civil bodies, clubs, organisations, communities etc to work for the justice and to help in erasing the incident of rape from the society.
SEWA stands with the family of the victim and shares the grief of the bereaved family, it stated. The JAC formed for working towards delivering justice to the minor and her family will be supported by the organisation, it added.
