A 12-hour bandh has been called in Senapati district, starting from 6 am of Wednesday endorsing the call of the ATSUM to boycott the state’s “Go to Hills 2.0” campaign.
The decision to proceed with the ‘Go to Hills 2.0’ programmes, after aggressive moves to push forward discriminatory and unconstitutional policies, is a direct insult to the tribal and indigenous communities in Manipur, a release stated.
The student body also appealed to the general public not to participate in the upcoming Go to Hills 2.0 which is due for Senapati district.
The student bodies claimed that the non-tabling of the Hill Areas Committee Bill, 2021 and the subsequent move to include nine valley MLAs in the HAC is completely “anti-tribal”.
Three MLAs of Manipur Congress who were inducted as members of the HAC also resigned from the membership of the committee on Saturday.
The Kuki Inpi Manipur stated the inclusion of nine assembly constituencies in the HAC is nothing but an attempt to interfere with and encroach into the functioning of the Hill Areas Committee.
The All Tribal Students Union Manipur (ATSUM) has requested the chairman of Hill Area Committee Manipur to issue/ declare his ‘stated position’ on before noon of September 6.
