The Hill Areas Committee (HAC) on Thursday resolved to appeal to the concerned authorities to immediately stop cultivation of poppy and destroy the plantations and other illegal drugs to save the future of Manipur.
The resolution was unanimously taken during the HAC meeting chaired by its chairman Dinganglung Gangmei at the Manipur Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
The meeting also resolved to fully endorse the government’s ‘War on Drugs’ mission and appeal to all chiefs, headmen, landowners, civil societies, church associations/unions and others in the hill areas of Manipur to wholeheartedly support the government’s initiatives of ‘War on Drugs’.
As a response to Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s appeal to support ‘War on Drugs’ and fight against cultivation of illegal poppy plantation, representatives from 33 communities in Manipur had taken a pledge on February 25, 2021 to end poppy cultivation under the banner “All Communities Convention for a pledge against illegal poppy plantation” at Bhagyachandra Open Air Theatre, Palace Compound.
