Jessami village in North of Ukhrul district has been declared containment zone with immediate effect, in view of the rapid increase in COVID-19 cases in the state and the prevailing Covid situation at the village.
Jessami village bordering neighbouring Nagaland state is the first village among the Tangkhul villages to have been declared as a containment area. To prevent rapid spread of the disease in the village, additional district magistrate, Kachamthai Faiga Gangmei on Friday declared containment measures in the area with immediate effect.

As part of the containment measures, it had sealed, barred entry and exit of population from the containment area and directed to initiate active surveillance of COVID-19 cases. Any person, institution and organisation found violating any of the above measures is deemed to have committed an offence punishable under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 51 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
Earlier today, district magistrate Ukhrul Joseph Pauline Kamson declared seven residents of Jessami village as a containment area. Meanwhile, Ukhrul district reported 26 COVID-19 positive cases on Friday.
