In view of the alarming COVID situation in Kangpokpi town and suspected community transmission, the local bodies on Thursday decided to impose a complete lockdown in Kangpokpi town with effect from May 7 to 13.
Kangpokpi has witnessed an alarming surge of COVID infection and fatality since the past few days. With four more positive cases in the last 24 hours and six recovery cases, the total active case stands at 63 while the official death toll stands at 19.
The local bodies’ decision under the aegis of Kangpokpi Town Committee with Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organization and Kangpokpi Youth Union was taken considering the public pressure in a joint meeting held on Thursday at KTC office following strict COVID guidelines
According to public notice, it was stated that the total lockdown was necessitated so as to break the chain of suspected community transmission of the dreaded COVID-19 second wave.
It also informed all business establishments, transport and general populace to strictly comply with the total lockdown.
However, emergency services such as government's officials, law enforcement agencies, medical, power supply, fire brigade, gas agencies, pharmacies, water supply and media shall be exempted from the purview of the lockdown.
A reliable source also said that one more woman from Motbung in Kangpokpi district also succumbed to COVID-19 on Thursday. However, no official confirmation has been recieved till the filing of this report.
