The Swedish Parliament has elected Ulf Kristersson of the conservative Moderate Party as the next Prime Minister of Sweden. He was elected by 176-173 votes.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated 59-year-old Ulf Kristersson and said he looked forward to working closely together to further strengthen the multi-faceted bilateral partnership.
In a tweet, the prime minister said: "Congratulations to H. E. Mr. Ulf Kristersson on his election as the next Prime Minister of Sweden. I look forward to working closely together to further strengthen our multi-faceted partnership."
Kristersson has been a member of the Riksdag for Södermanland County since 2014 and previously from 1991 to 2000 for Stockholm County. He served as minister for social security from 2010 to 2014 and Chairman of the Moderate Youth League from 1988 to 1992.
