As many as 11 satellite transmitters tagged Amur falcons were released on Friday at Chiuluan Village in Tamenglong district in Manipur.
These Amur Falcons were captured by a team of Tamenglong Forest Division and local volunteers under the guidance of Scientist F, WII, Dehradun Suresh Kumar on Thursday from Chiuluan roosting site.
The research programme has been taken up under the aegis of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
In the meantime, district forest officer Kh Hitler Singh told the Imphal Free Press that two Amur Falcons were given the names as Chiuluan2 and Guangram with the approval of principal chief conservator of Forests and Chief Wildlife Warden, Manipur Anurag Bajpai and tagged with satellite transmitters.
Chiuluan2 and Guangram are the names of two important roosting villages of Amur falcon in Tamenglong district, Manipur.
These tagged Amur Falcon were released by the divisional forest officer Tamenglong Kh Hitler Singh in the presence of Suresh Kumar, Joel Gangmei RFO Tamenglong, Chairman, Village Authority members of Chiuluan Village, Rainforest Club Tamenglong members and staff of Tamenglong Forest Division.
Besides the two satellite transmitters tagged Amur falcon, two Amur falcons named Riangsuanei and Laisana ringed with pfa.manipur@gmail.com were also released.
All the remaining seven Amur Falcon were also released. All the Amur Falcon were also ringed with BNHS rings i.e. from C58352 to C58362.
