Tamenglong deputy commissioner L Angshim Dangshawa on Wednesday issued a prohibitory order, insctructing the residents of Tamenglong and Noney district to preserve and protect wildlife, including Amur Falcon, locally known as ‘Akhuaipuina’.
In his prohibitory order, he stated that hunting, killing, destruction of wildlife including migratory birds, Amur Falcon, in any way for food or possession or otherwise is a punishable offense under sections 50 and 51 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
He said hunting, catching, killing and selling of the birds, including Amur Falcons by anyone in the district and nearby surrounding areas is totally banned with immediate effect.
The district magistrate also mentioned that the migratory bird usually arrives in many parts of Tamenglong district and bordering areas from first to second week of October and is likely to roost till end of November, and as this period is considered crucial in the life cycle of Amur Falcons.
His order also banned all the air guns in the district and asked all owners to deposit them at their respective village authorities office.
He also names 44 village authorities, namely Chiuluan, Khangchiuluan, Duigailong, Tamenglong Khunjao, Tamenglong town, Bamgaijang, Taobam, Namtiram 2, Nheng, Dikiuram, Konphung and Rianglong, Taijijang, Zeiladjang, Azuram, Thiulon, Vanchengphai, Akhui, Sangrungpang, Tabanglong, Namkaolong (Keikao), Sempang, Duiluan, Matung, Puching, Phallong, Sonram, Dailong, Lenglong, Konphung, Dikiuram, Katang, Nheng, Ndai, Maruangpa, Namtiram, Namtiram-2, Nheng, Dikiuram, Konphung, Renglong, Guangram, Raengkhung and Taobam to keep all the air guns deposited in their custody until the last flock leave their roosting place or till November 30.
He further instructed the village authority to submit the report of air gun collection by September 30 and stated that anyone found willfully violating these prohibitory orders is liable to face consequences as per the law of the land, he added.
