Facebook-owned messaging app WhatsApp will soon stop working on several iOS and Android smartphones from December 31.
Starting December 31, WhatsApp will stop working on older versions of both Android and iOS smartphones. Simply put, WhatsApp will no longer support Android phones that are running on Android 5.0 and iPhones running on iOS 10 and 11. The instant messaging app will be available to Android running OS 4.1 and newer, iPhone running iOS 12 or newer, and KaiOS 2.5.0 and above, including JioPhone and JioPhone 2.
However, WhatsApp ending support from December 31 should not worry most smartphone users as the popular messaging app will stop working for smartphones with old and outdated operating systems.
"To keep up with the latest advances in technology, we routinely stop supporting older operating systems to point our resources to supporting the latest ones. If we stop supporting your operating system, you'll be notified and reminded a few times to upgrade your device to continue using WhatsApp," the instant messaging app said in a blog.
