The state government on April 5 issued an order that residents and shop owners in both the stretches of Paona and Thangal bazaars should park their vehicles at the western side of Johnstone Higher Secondary School and on public parking space of Naga Nullah respectively. IFP Editorial: Perhaps, the time has come for the government and municipal authorities to enact a law to prohibit vehicle parking on all roads and to make it mandatory for every vehicle owner to have own parking spaces for their vehicles in their Ingkhols or rent commercial garages.
Steps must be taken to ensure that all illegal structures/ obstacles are removed, irrespective of the individuals whether he is connected or not. A few cases of nepotism or corruption in the process can derail the whole effort. The need to maintain public space must be made to be felt and once a system is put in place and properly monitored, it will become a habit.
