Thoubal Polo: Ikop Ningthou riders gallop with 6-5 goals win

The opening match of the 2nd Thoubal District Polo Tournament 2022 was held under the aegis Manipur Horse Riding & Polo Association at Tekcham Polo Ground, Thoubal.

Ikop Ningthou Kangjei Polo Club, Khangabok gallops with 6-5 goal win over Thoubal District Polo Association(C) in the opening match of the 2nd Thoubal District Polo Tournament 2022 held under the aegis Manipur Horse Riding & Polo Association at Tekcham Polo Ground, Thoubal.

Nine polo teams-Tekcham Polo Club(A), Thoubal District Polo Club(C), Ikop Ningthou Kangjei Polo Club Khangabok, Thoubal District Polo Association(B), Samurou Polo Club, Thoubal District Polo Club(A), Tekcham Polo Club(B), Khuman Polo Club Mayang Imphal and Tentha Polo Club are participating in the tournament, which is organised by Tekcham PC.

Ikop Ningthou rider made the battle cry early in the game with I Ratan hitting in two quick goals within two minute of play. However, Thoubal riders came in with full gusto with L Abishek and M Bikram fetching a goal each to level 2-2 goals in the first chukker.

The tempo of the game gains momentum in the second chukker with riders of both the teams, began to rubbed shoulders but it was Ikop Ningthou rider N Rohit who banks on his experience to break away from the melee to slot home his team third goal for the lead in the first half.

Thoubal district riders managed to catch up in the third chukker with W Khambaton swinging his mallet to perfection to the goal and a little later, M Bikram found the gap to strike the fourth goal, putting pressure on the Ikop Ningthou team.

But the game seemed far from over as Ikop Ningthou rider I Ratan flourished with a goal to draw parity to the scoreline with 4-4 goals each.

The fourth chukker proved crucial for Thoubal district team as they seemed to be running away with the victory with M Bikram finding the fifth goal but Ikop Ningthou team jumped back strongly with N Rohit fetching the equaliser and pumping home another goal for the victory.
