Nanao Singh proved his mettle, striking twice against WAFA Wangoi to guide SSU Singjamei to the final of the 11th Shaheed Manoranjan Singh Memorial CRPF Football Tournament 2020-21 on Monday, organised by 143 Battalion at SAI Takyel, Imphal West.
The first semi final saw WAFA Wangoi who has been having a smooth sail in the tournament, seemed to have a perplexed mindset in taking against SSU team, who set the goal high in the first half itself.
Making calculated moves, SSU sprang up the surprise quite early in the game when A Nanao Singh produced the opening goal in the 4th minute of the play. Continuing their pressure, SSU kept on raiding its opponent goalmouth and finally, WAFA gave in on the 31st minute when A Nanao came up with his second goal to enjoy the lead in the first half.
Though WAFA Wangoi struggled in the early stage of the game, they made several inroads in the second half but proved futile and had to make a sad exit. SSU players S Chittaranjan, N Kabiraj, Th Sushilkumar, Y Sushilkumar and WAFA player Peter were served with a yellow card by referee N Ibungo in the match.
In tomorrow’s second semi final, Neroca Football Academy, Imphal East will take on ESU Wangkhei at 1.30 pm.
