Five of the seven sportspersons from Manipur who represented India in the Commonwealth Games 2022 at Birmingham, England, brought home a medal each, including gold, silver and bronze.
Manipur Chief Minister lauded them for their remarkable achievements and contributions that have made the state and the country proud.
"Proud of all the 7 sportspersons from Manipur who have participated in the #CWG2022, representing India. It is also a matter of great pride that, of the 7 participants from Manipur, 5 of them have bagged a medal each," CM Biren tweeted on Wednesday.
Of the five medal winners from Manipur, weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu delivered the first gold for India in 49 kg category and Sorokhaibam Bindyarani Devi won a silver medal in the 55 kg category.
Sushila Devi Likmabam also clinched a silver in Judo, while Nilakanta Sharma won silver in Men's Hockey and Shushila Chanu Pukhrambam got bronze in Women's Hockey.
The players were accorded a warm welcome on their return home on Sunday.
India finished 4th at CWG 2022 with 22 Gold, 16 silver and 23 bronze in the Commonwealth Games 2022 which began on July 28 ended on August 8.
