Neeraj defeated Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem to become the first Indian to clinch gold in Men’s Javelin at the World Athletics Championships.

Neeraj Chopra created history by becoming the first Indian to clinch gold in Men’s Javelin at the World Athletics Championships 2023 at Budapest on Sunday.

Neeraj defeated Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, with a record distance of 88.17m and 87.73m.

Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur took to social media and congratulated Neeraj Chopra for winning the gold medal at the event, and said that the entire nation is proud of him.

 "The golden boy of Indian athletics wins the men’s javelin throw at World Athletics Championships. The entire nation is proud of your achievements and this moment will be remembered forever in Indian sporting history." Anurag Thakur tweeted.

Manipur Chief Minister CM Biren also congratulated the new championin Men's Javelin and described him as "an emblem of unparalleled distinction in the global sports arena."
