NE Games 2024: Manipur collects 12 medals in Taekwondo, Boxing

The total medal for Manipur stands at 29 gold, 18 silver and 29 bronze medals.

Manipur players had mixed luck on the third day of the 3rd North East Games 2024 in Nagaland winning just three golds from 12 medals they won in Taekwondo and Boxing events.

On Thursday, Manipur won 3 gold, one silver and 8 bronze medals from Taekwondo and Boxing events for Manipur; seven bronze medals were from Boxing.

The total medal for Manipur stands at 29 gold, 18 silver and 29 bronze medals.

In the Taekwondo event held at Futsal A Sovima venue, Salam Charlie Devi kicked her way to the gold beating Lalrinngheti Sailo of Mizoram in the 53 kg bout while Priyadrashini Mayengbam also brought up another gold beating Thapana Handique of Assam in 46 kg and

Pangambam Bope Singh also captured the gold over Lalhmingsanga of Mizoram in 63 kg.

Kangujam Milan Singh lost to Ankur of Nagaland in the 74 kg to settle for the silver medal while Kharibam Chanchan Devi bagged the bronze medal in 57 kg, losing to Vanlalthlamuanpuii of Mizoram.

On a brighter note, eight medals have been assured to Manipur from Boxing as three women and five men have pushed themselves into the final bout of the meet.

As for the day at Archery Complex, Sovima, seven boxers including two men had to settle for the bronze medals. The bronze medallist women boxers are Thoicha Devi in 48 kg, Rosemary in 52 kg, Sovi Jajo in 60 kg, Alena in 66 kg, T. Premi in 70 kg while in Men’s category are K. Roshan in 60 kg and Khambaton in 67 kg.

Boxers who have proceeded into the final bout in the women’s category are Bhumabati Devi who beat Gora Yallung of Arunachal Pradesh by 4-1 points in 50 kg, Bindiya Devi beat Rudy of Mizoram by 3-2 points in 63 kg and Silky Devi beat Gitimi Gogoi of Assam by 5-0 points in 75 kg.

As for the Men's category, Chinglemba sent Vanlalriatchunga of Mizoram reeling with 4-1 points win in 51 kg while Jackson floored VL Dinpuia of Mizoram by 5-0 points in 54 kg, Kingson beat Vanlalruatpuia of Mizoram by 5-0 points in 57 kg, Chinglemba Moirangthem outshone Sukleswar of Nagaland by 5-0 points in 63.5 kg and Rahul prevailed over Jyoyi Kalita of Assam by 3-2 points in 85 kg, enroute to the final.
