Chungreng Koren (Koireng), the Champion Matrix Fight Night (MFN)-15 and defending his undisputed MFN Bantamweight title, was accorded a warm welcome upon his arrival at the Imphal Airport on Wednesday by the Koren (Koireng) Youth Organisation, Manipur (KYO-M).
He defeated Karnataka’s Kantharaj Agasa in the second round via TKO in the match held on August 30 at Indoor Stadium, Greater Noida.
His felicitation was also attended by leaders of village authorities, youth clubs, women society and was presided over by RN Boipu Koireng, president of KYO(M).
Chungreng Koren belongs to the Koireng tribe and is from a financially backward family from Kamu Koireng Village, Manipur. He also won the Interim Bantamweight world Championship title in the 14th Edition of the MFN-14 held on March 9 this year.
The KYO (M) expressed that his winning is not only a joyous and victorious moment for himself but also a proud moment for Manipur state and North East India. They expressed pride for such excellent performance and winning one of the highest level titles.
He became the first ever interim bantamweight champion from Manipur at MFN international level.
In previous events, he had won MFN 7, MFN 8, MFN 11 and MFN12.
Information and publicity secretary of KYO(M), RT Sonrang Koireng said Chungreng Koren’s hard work, firm determination, dedication and sacrifice, courage and spirit led to victory.
Wishing good luck to Chungreng Koren for his future endeavours, he appealed to the government and concerned authorities to extend possible help to Chungreng Koren to bring more laurels to the state for upcoming events and fulfil his dream.
