The Department of Physical Education and Sports Science, Manipur University together with the Education Ministry observed National Sports Day 2023 in paying homage to hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand Singh at Dr Kamal Indoor Stadium, Canchipur.
With the theme 'Sports as an Enabler for an Inclusive and Fit Society' and marking the occasion, a badminton competition was organised among six Department/Houses of the Manipur University.
The six houses are Paona House, Bir Tikendrajit House, Irawat House, Thangal House, Jadonang House and Rani Gaidinliu House of which Paona House emerged as winner while Jadonang House as runners up of the day.
Manipur University VC, Prof N Lokendra Singh presented the trophy to the teams. Dr. L. Thambal Singh, HOD of Physical Education & Sports Science, Prof. N. Aruna-Dean of Humanities, Prof. I. Gambhir Singh-President MUTA and Arjuna Awardee and Olympian, Chinglensana Singh Kangujam also presented on the occasion.
