Southern Sporting Union, Singjamei Kakwa registered their opening win against Dimapur Road Athletic Organisation, Awang Sekmai by 2-1 goals in the 15th Manipur State League 2022 played at Artificial Turf, Lamlong Thongkhong.
Feeling the turf for the MSL season, Singjamei Sporting Union took the game in a cool and casual manner and sent a strong message to its opponent when midfielder Ch Johnson’s curling shot found the net to bring up the opening goal in the 9th minute of the game.
Though hampered by an unsuccessful run in the beginning, the Dimapur Road boys got back their confidence with Bonison Nongmaithem fetching the equaliser in 25 minute to ease the heat of the game. But SSU rallied back strongly in the remaining minute of the first half when Mynam Arif Hussain provided the lead just before the whistle in 44 minute to enjoy the game with 2-1 goals.
Despite both teams making a flurry of substitutions in the second half play, none could change the statistic of the match as SSU prevailed with the win. Dimapur Road player Kh Bishwamitra and SSU players N Kabiraj, A Nanao got booked with yellow cards for reckless foul.
In the other match, Rising Athletic Union blanked United Khawzim Brothers by 2-0 goals to grab full points.
The Rising Athletic dominated the game from the start with Ng Jiten Singh providing the lead in the 7th minute of play and later went on to add his second goal in the 60th minute in a cool fashioned manner. His over enthusiastic approach also won a yellow card in second half play. United Brother player Jesie Lalnuntlung also received a yellow card as well in the match.
