Southern Sporting Union, Singjamei upset NACO Nambul Mapal by 3-2 goals in the Khumukcham Ingocha Memorial 15th Manipur State League 2022 played at Artificial Turf Lamlong Thongkhong, Imphal East.
The intensity of the game took off with a more aggressive approach from the SSU Singjamei and yielded the much anticipated result in the 33rd minute of play from a penalty. N Sanjiv Singh made no mistake in converting the goal for the lead.
With the vocal temperature rising in both camps for more, SSU Singjamei once again, raised their game when Y Joychandra Singh made a close-angle shot to the left of the keeper for the second goal in the 40th minute.
NACO, feeling the heat, made a die-hard approach and got rewarded just in nick of time when Ng Rakesh Singh unleashed a grounder in the 45th minute to trail by 1-2 goals.
There was no let up in the aggressive approach of the teams and both had a hard time wriggling out of each other's clutches. SSU Singjamei got their most desired moment in the 62nd minute from a penalty and N Kabiraj found the perfect angle for the shot to increase the lead.
Latching onto every opportunity, NACO Nambul Mapal made a spirited move in the 69th minute of play and freed themselves from the defender while giving way for Glomei Apu Kabui to make a shot to the goal, but that proved not enough for the day.
NACO players Ng Peter, S Amitkumar and SSU goalkeeper Siddharth Rana received yellow cards in the match.
In the other match, Muvanlai Athletics hold on North Eastern Sporting Union, Porompat by 1-1 goals to share a point each. Bilky Laitonjam scored for NESU in the 76th minute while Samson Haubiakmuan fetched the equaliser for Muvanlai Athletics in the 89th minute.
