Manipur Hill District Sports Meet 2021-22 begins

The participating districts include Chandel, Churachandpur, Sadar Hills, Senapati, Tamenglong and Ukhrul.

The 6th Hill District Sports Meet 2021-22 organised by the Hill District Sports Association Manipur (HIDSAM) started at the sports complex, Chamdil Christian village, Chandel on Tuesday.

The participating districts include Chandel, Churachandpur, Sadar Hills, Senapati, Tamenglong and Ukhrul. Girls volleyball and boys football are the two games of the event. More than 200 players and staff, including team managers, are participating, as per DSA Chandel.  

The opening ceremony football match was played between Chandel district against Senapti district. The fierce contest ended in a draw without goals. Tamenglong district beat Sadar hills in the second match with a 2-1 margin. Sinthailung and Samson were the scorers while Lamminthang from Sadar Hills was the lone scorer in the second half of the match.

The opening ceremony was attended by deputy commissioner Chandel Mayanglambam Rajkumar as chief guest and president Chandel Naga People's Organisation (CNPO) Rd David Boyes as functional president.

Acting president, HIDSAM Darison Dangmei in his welcome and introductory speech appreciated all the dignitaries and delegates for participating in the event. The event is to share football and volleyball talents from hill districts and nurture them, he said.

RS Heli Henry, Advisor HIDSAM, in his keynote address emphasised on 'Unity through Sports' and encouraged all the players to play well. The dignitaries on the dais in their speech mentioned that "football is a beautiful game and encouraged the participating teams to play beautifully and enjoy the game".
