Manipur gymnasts displayed extraordinary feats as Ruban Meitei vaulted to the gold medal in the 37th National Games held at Peddem Sports Complex at the coastal town of Goa.
The young vaulter, Ruban Meitei, scored a near perfect of 13.22 for the coveted gold medal; he had already won silver in the Floor Exercise.
The silver medal was bagged by Mohammad Ana of Odisha with 13.03 and Karnataka vaulter Ujwal Naidu won the Bronze with a score of 12.98.
Earlier in the Gymnastic event, Ariha Pangambam also won a gold medal in the individual Aerobics. The Aerobics Gymnasts trio comprising Ariha Pangambam, Anjori Pangambam and Leishilembi Chabungbam had won Gold increasing the tally for Manipur.
So far, Manipur has claimed 5 Gold, 2 Silver and 8 Bronze medals in the ongoing 37th National Games.
Wearing a broad smile, Chef de Mission of Manipur, Bobby Waikhom, IAS said, it was an impressive display of grit and determination by the gymnastics team's winning three Gold and one Silver. It is really a new awakening for the gymnasts of the state and we are very sure that it will infuse new zeal.
Bobby Waikhom added that Ruban Meitei won Gold and Silver in the Vault and Floor Exercise. We were hoping that Gymnastics will receive a special attraction among the new generation in the coming years, he said.
