Manipur girl bags 3 golds at Asian Meet

Aavya was the youngest among the 31 swimmers representing India at the recently concluded Asian Open School Invitational Meet.

A seven-year-old Aavya Khomdram of Manipur has emerged as a standout star at the recently concluded Asian Open School Invitational Meet held at the Assumption University Aquatic Center (ABAC) in Suvarnabhumi Campus, Thailand on August 17 and 18.

Competing against a strong field of athletes, Aavya won three gold medals in the 25 metres freestyle, 50 metres freestyle, and the mixed relay 200 freestyle swimming events, making her one of the youngest and most successful competitors at the meet. 

Aavya, the only daughter of Khomdram Amarjit Singh and Khomdram Ongbi Bonny Devi from Haobam Marak Irom Leikai, currently studies in Class 2 at Sanghamitra School, Nizampet, Hyderabad. 

She began her swimming journey at the tender age of four under the guidance of national coach John Siddique at ZION Sports Academy, Bowrampet, Hyderabad.

Her parents, who reside in Hyderabad, have been instrumental in nurturing her passion and talent for swimming. 

Aavya was the youngest among the 31 swimmers representing India at the event, yet her performance outshone many, earning her well-deserved recognition on an international platform.
