Manipur fencers, cyclists shine at National Games 2022

Manipur fencers Phamdom Anita Devi, Laishram Khusboorani Devi, Waikhom Sonia Devi and Naorem Mina Chanu claimed gold in the Foil Team Women, beating Kerala by 45-41 points.

Fencers and Cyclists did Manipur proud by bagging a gold medal each in the 36th National Games 2022 in Gujarat.

Manipur fencers Phamdom Anita Devi, Laishram Khusboorani Devi, Waikhom Sonia Devi and Naorem Mina Chanu claimed gold in the Foil Team Women, beating Kerala by 45-41 points.

In the semi final, Manipur beat Madhya Pradesh women fencers by a huge margin of 45-14 points.

The men cyclists team also did exceptionally well in the 750 meter Men's Team Sprint claiming a gold medal. The gold medal winning cyclists comprises Laitonjam Ronaldo Singh Singh, Yanglem Rojit Singh , Keithellakpam Jemsh and Thangsabam Chinglensana Singh.

Two more medals including a silver and bronze medals were added up from cycling, including 750 meter Women's Team Sprint and Omnium Race respectively.

I Matouleibi, T Monorama and Y Thaja Devi comprised the women's team sprint while Khoirom Rejiya Devi took the bronze in Omnium race.

In football, Manipur registered their second win, beating Goa by 4-0 goals. S Rinaroy Devi scored the opening goal in the 44th minute and later Prameshwori Devi in the 65th minute, Ng Bala Devi in the 75th minute and Roja Devi in the 86th minute brought up the winning goals.

The fifth day saw Manipur collecting 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze medals giving a total haul of 11 Gold, 4 Silver and 9 Bronze medals in the Games.
