The Manipur Adventure and Mountain Biking Association (MAAMBA) with support from Wilderness Adventure Manipur and Manipur Downhill Society organised the first MT Urban Downhill Tournament on Sunday as part of the 17th Orange Festival at Tamenglong district.
MAAMBA said in a release that 10 cyclists participated in the tournament, including a lady cyclist.
The cycling event was launched by MLA Janghemlung Panmei and Tamenglong DC Pawan Yadav in the presence of Tamenglong additional district magistrate Thangboi Gangte and MAAMBA president Ng Arunkumar Singh, it informed.
Moirangthem Goaller Singh was the winner of the open competition and won prize money of Rs 4,000 while Thokchom Tennyson Singh and Kshetrimayum Jack Singh finished 2nd and 3rd and won a sum of Rs 25,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively, it mentioned. The lone lady rider Urbashi Kaomom was awarded a consolation prize of Rs 10,000 while all the other riders were awarded consolation prizes of Rs 3,000 each, it continued.
It also stated that Ng Arunkumar Singh said that such adventurous events will help promote tourism and adventure sports in the state, adding that MAAMBA will always support such competitive events for the youths.
