Kings IX outshone Japhou Youth Club by 5-3 goals during kicks from penalty spot to booked their quarter final berth in the 1st Sepoy Nicolas 9-A Side Memorial Football Cup 2023 organised by Heigrutampak Village Authority along with DSA Chandel at Heigrutampak Ground.
Goalless in the regulation hours, the match outcome was to be decided by penalty shootout to pick a team to the last eight stages.
For Kings IX team, NL Thumtha, ST Kankhungam, SS Bungdam, KL Riverson, SR Kaga scored their respective kicks while for Japhou team, W Roger, W David, W Strongman managed to beat the keeper.
In the other pre-quarter final matches, Football Hunters beat Penaching FC by 2-0 goals with Fedrick scoring in the 14th minute and Warthangam getting the winning goal in the 43rd minute for the victory.
Yet in another penalty shootout verdict, Donut Boys got the better of TDC (A) by 3-1 goals to make it to the quarter final. Renghong, Moningkham, Kenphasha each brought up a goal for the Donut team. The lone goal for TDC was made by Paolin.
