The 1st District Sports Association Noney (DSA) on Monday launched a football cup opening ceremony that was held under Noney district at Longmai Common ground.
The tournament was organised by District Sports Association, Noney under the theme of discipline, teamwork, excellence.
Deputy commissioner, Noney district Joseph Pauline Kamson; SP Noney N Madhunimai Singh and chairman, Longmai Village Authority Kasaigai Gangmei attended the event as chief guest and guest of honor respectively.
Joseph Pauline acknowledged and encouraged all the team, club and participants in his speech. An important part of playing in a team is accepting discipline, he said.
Playing sport means the youths are expected to follow rules, accept decisions and understand that they could be penalised for bad behavior, he said.
It teaches them to take directions from the coach, referees and other adults. Sport also teaches them about teamwork, he added.
Performance of parade by the team and club, presentation of gifts for dignitaries, flag hoisting, declaration of 1st DSA Noney Football Cup by the chief guest were the main highlights of the programme.
There are 22 Teams/Football Club taking part in DSA Noney Football Cup, and the opening match was played between Gaidimjang Youngster Association Vs Khumji FC. The match was won by GYA with the score GYA-1, Khumji FC-0.
