3rd North East Games 2024: Manipur win 19 medals on day one

Manipur reaped a rich harvest claiming 19 medals including 7 golds on day one of the 3rd North East Games 2024 in Nagaland from Pencak Silat, Archery and Athletic events.

Manipur reaped a rich harvest claiming 19 medals including 7 golds on day one of the 3rd North East Games 2024 in Nagaland from Pencak Silat, Archery and Athletic events. 

The event of Pencak Silat turned out as a new saviour for Manipur as they delivered nine medals including 3 golds held at Futsal B, Sovima, Nagaland. 

From the Athletic event held at IG Stadium, Kohima, Manipur won a gold, silver and bronze medals and in the Archery event, three golds, two silvers and two bronzes fell into the coffer as well.

In the Pencak Silta event, Th. Rita Chanu stood out as the lone female athlete who grabbed the gold medal in the Tanding event of 45-50kg.

In the Male category, A. Rohit Meitei, participating in the Tungal event, also landed another gold while in the Ganda Regu event, S. Jeeven and S. Chingkhei bagged a gold medal.

The two silver medals were collected by S. Jeevan in Solo event and in the Male Regu event, S. Jeevan, Chingkhei and Y. Rohit got one. The bronze medallists are Th. Dayalakshmi in Solo Female, N. Lanchenbi in Tanding 50-55kg, Th. Dayalakshmi in Tanding 45 kg and Ch. Dolly in Tungal Female.

As for the Athletic event, Moirangthem Ashniha Singh claimed gold medal in the Men's 100 meter with a timing of 10.52 seconds while Neiketoulie Belho of Nagaland took the silver with 10.61 seconds and Arupjyoti Gogoi of Assam fetched the bronze with 10.77 seconds, among the eight athletes.

In the 4X 400 meter race, Manipur athletes M. Aken, N. John, O. Sanajaoba and N. Alex settled for the silver medal while in the Discus Throw, Kh. Samson fetched the bronze medal.

The Archery event held at 1st NAP Ground, Chumoukedima saw Manipur archers claiming three gold and two silver and two bronze medals of the day.

In the Compound Round Individual Men, archer M. Bikram took the gold while Arnab Jyoti Deka fetched the silver and Laishram Yohenba Singh took the bronze medals. As for the Women Compound event, Ksh. Manglemsana Devi took the gold while compatriot Paonam Lily Chanu bagged the silver and Lotsulu Sazo settled for the bronze medal. 

The Recurve Round Individual Men saw T. Sen Meitei wrestled the gold while N. Subashchandra Meitei of Manipur took the silver while Mukesh Bora of Assam picked up the bronze medal.

In the Women Recurve Individual, Manipur archer Y. Anupama Devi settled for the bronze medal as Nagaland and Assam archers took the first and second spot.

Manipur boxers also rose on the occasion with five punching their way to the semifinal while one boxer lost his bout in the quarter final. The five semi-finalists are Chinglemba Singh in 51 kg, P. Jackson Singh in 54 kg, P. Kingson Singh in 57 kg, Chinglemba Moirangthem in 63.5 kg and Th. Khambaton in 67kg.
