The 1st Phantu Volleyball Tournament organised by the Lambung Youth and Cultural Club (LYCC) at LP School Ground, Lambung in Chandel district ended on Friday with winners emerging from the three categories of teams that participated following thrilling final matches.
At the end of the week-long tournament, Chakpikarong Youth Club (CYC) emerged as the champion in the men's category defeating Thangkham by 3 sets to one; the scores read 25-18, 13-25, 25-21 and 25-19. Sp Joyngam of CYC was declared the man of the match of the final.
In the women's final, Phunchung defeated Cheengkhu by 3 sets to nil with the scores reading 25-18, 25-14, 25-16. Kl Phunihring was adjudged the player of the final match.
However, the match of the day was definitely the finale of the Men's veteran which ended in a 5 thrilling sets with Beru Unopat coming out victorious in the end over Modi veterans.
Modi drew first blood taking the first set 25-22. However, Beru Unopat found their form and took the next two sets 25-23, 25-17. But again, Modi fought back in the fourth set to take it 25-19, thus heading into the 5th and final set.
However, it was Beru Unopat who prevailed in the end taking control of the 5th set with a 15-9 and thus emerging the champion of the veteran teams.
Dy Joyngam of Modi veterans was declared the man of the match.
All the three winning teams walked away richer with Rs 15,000/ while the runner ups walked away with Rs 7,000. The best players were awarded a cash prize of Rs 1000 each.
The closing ceremony of the finale was graced by TS Chamna Anal, president, DSA, Chandel and Ps Yumas, president, Anal Naga Sporting Association (ANSA) as special guests.
In their speeches, they called on the finalists to play with a spirit of sportsmanship and for the betterment of the society.
