As many as 16 veteran sportspersons who have bagged international and national medals and brought laurels to the state were felicitated on Monday by the Manipur Master Athletes Association (MMAA) in Imphal West.
"It is a very heart-warming occasion as veteran sportsperson who brought fame to the state have been honoured," former MMAA treasure Naoroibam Subadani said while speaking on the sidelines of the function held at the Khuman Lampak Youth Hostel.
Subadani said MMAA members have been neglected by the government since 2012 for having two-three factions. But a judgment of the Manipur High Court had given an opportunity to unite all factions as one by conducting a fresh election of the association, she added.
The upcoming election will be conducted in a free and fair manner as it is going to be supervised by the Registrar Cooperative Society, she said. Once the election is over it is believed that the members of the association will continue to get the various initiatives of the government like in the past, she added.
Expressing that the government seems to remain as a mute spectators when a master athletics bagged medals for the state, she drew the government's attention to at least honour the master athletics who had brought fame for the state.
