Everyone reads news everyday - on newspapers, television or on the phone. These news are the work of the media personnel who work relentlessly to connect one with the world. However, not every news report is presentable or made ready-to-use. But behind the well written reports and news lies a team of invisible "Media Magicians" who make the news item presentable and easy to understand for the readers. In the journalistic world, the actual beauty of a report lies in the hands of the Editorial team.
This Editorial team, including the editors, sub-editors and copyeditors, is hardly visible or known to the readers while the reporters are more often known or made known to the public. From fact-checking and reshaping headlines, they are a professional team with a passion for attention to details. Without their hands on desk, the news reports, would, perhaps, create confusion among the readers, thus ruining the hard work of the reporters and of course, the real purpose of news.
There is no greater joy than serving and making others happy. Not everyone can voice their opinions and concerns. Nor everyone can be heard. There must be someone to be the voice of the people and that's what journalists strive for. Unlike the reporters or the media personnel on the field, the editorial team does not have many feathers to their caps nor are they in the spotlight (as it should be). They are often hidden from the public eye. A reporter's reportage would not be able to hit the mark without the help of these "Magicians".
However, it is worthwhile to note that they are not providing their services for fame or glory. They take pleasure to see the reporters rise to the challenges. They render their services for the joy of contributing to a great, worthwhile initiative -disseminating news in a more presentable and precise way.
So, what one can perhaps do is to understand and appreciate the beautiful hands on the desk to help them keep doing what they are doing. This will help them grow and also help the reporters grow while the reader continues to enjoy flawless news reports. Understand that news reports are not a one-man job but a team work. Help them to serve the readers and the society better!
