S Phangnon Konyak on Monday took oath as the first-ever woman Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament from Nagaland.
Six newly-elected Rajya Sabha MPs, including three from Northeast India, took oath as members of Rajya Sabha on Monday.
The six newly-elected Rajya Sabha MPs who took oath on Monday included, S Phangnon Konyak (BJP, Nagaland); Pabitra Margherita (BJP, Assam), Rwngwra Narzary (UPPL, Assam); Jebi Mather Hisham (Congress, Kerala); Sandosh Kumar (CPI, Kerala); and AA Rahim (CPI-M, Kerala).
The first elected Rajya Sabha MP from Nagaland was accompanied to New Delhi by Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton, BJP national spokesperson Mmhonlumo Kikon and Nagaland Minister Jacob Zhimomi to her oath-taking ceremony at the Parliament.
Konyak, who is also the Nagaland state BJP Mahila Morcha president, was elected unopposed to the lone Rajya Sabha seat from Nagaland.
Several state leaders took to Twitter to congratulate Phangnon Konyak.
"Attended the oath taking ceremony of Smti @phangnon as MP Rajya Sabha, joined by my colleagues Shri @jacob_zhimomi and Shri @MmhonlumoKikon. On this historic moment, I congratulate her once again and extend my profound gratitude to our alliance partners for their support," Deputy CM Y Patton tweeted.

May you continue to be an inspiration to all women as you take on this new venture. Wishing you the best!" Nagaland BJP president Temjen Imna Along said in a tweet.
"Heartiest Congratulations to Smti @phangnon Konyak Ji on oath taking as MP Rajya Sabha from Nagaland in the Parliament at New Delhi, Today," Nagaland BJP general secretary Khevishe Sema posted on Twitter.
"My heartfelt congratulations to Smti. @phangnon on taking oath as the MP of Rajya Sabha today.Wishing you all the very best in your endeavors. May you continue to serve the people with great zeal & dedication," MLA H Khehovi also tweeted.
