Traffic between Dimapur and Kohima has been disconnected due to a massive landslide near Dzüdza bridge under Sechü-Zubza, Kohima district, NH-29, that occurred on Monday. Reports said that several heavy vehicles were seen stranded in either direction of the road.
Meanwhile, an emergency meeting of the Kohima District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) was convened at the DPDB hall Kohima on Tuesday, to address the landslide, which has impacted traffic and the supply of essential commodities.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Kohima district, Kumar Ramnikant chaired the meeting, informing attendees that the SDO Civil Sechü-Zubza, along with village authorities and contractors had inspected the upper reaches of the landslide area and submitted a report.
A committee, with the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) and CEO DDMA Kohima, Rhosietho Nguori as its chairman, has been formed to visit and monitor the affected area.
Following the assessment, the committee will draft a plan to mitigate the occurrence of continuous landslides and submit a report for further action by higher authorities, an official statement said.
The meeting prioritized the need to channelize traffic, particularly for trucks carrying essential commodities, fuel, and medicines. Additionally, teams were proposed to visit stranded trucks and provide basic assistance to truckers in need.
All concerned agencies have been directed to maintain other used roads properly for commuters, the statement added.
