With the “efforts” of NHIDCL authorities and “timely” intervention of the Nagaland government, an “immediate emergency” arrangement was made for a single lane of National Highway-29 (Kohima-Dimapur road), which was opened and operational with 20 heavy vehicles at one go on Friday, an official statement said.
The state government is making earnest efforts to restore the roads and bring life to normality, it also stated.
Meanwhile, Western Sumi Hoho led by its president Shikaho Zhimo and Western Sumi Youth Front led by its president Atokiho Sumi visited the disaster-hit areas at Pherima to show solidarity and sympathize with the people inflicted by the disaster.
Meanwhile, an advisory issued on Friday stated by the Home department said priority to be given to heavy vehicles ferrying essential commodities to ply from Chathe Bridge (Patkai Jn.) to New Chumoukedima, on the NH 29 in an hourly basis depending on the structural integrity of the road and weather conditions. The movement of vehicles shall be regulated by the Traffic Police, Chumoukedima, it added.
Only light vehicles can ply from Chumoukedima Town (Old Check Gate) to New Chumoukedima via Old Chumoukedima village road, it further added.
