JK Arts and Craft Music Centre, Khurai Thongam Leikai on Sunday performed ‘Khunung Esei’ at a temporary shelter home, Sawombung, Imphal East in their bid to provide respite to the Internally Displaced People (IDPs) and help improve their mental health.

Since the violence erupted in Manipur after a large number of homes and properties were burned down, violence in Manipur escalated, displacing around 60,000. Over 220 people were killed and many of them are still missing.

To provide shelter for the IDPs, the state government has been opening various relief camps and prefabricated houses at various districts of Manipur.

One IDP recently committed suicide inside a government run pre-fabricated house at Kwakta, Bishnnupur. Following the incident, another IDP tried to commit suicide at another relief camp, Tamku Water Sports complex, Laishoi, Bishnupur district.

On the occasion, Guru of JK Art and Craft Music Centre, Keithellakpam Jugeshor said that the institution demonstrated the traditional music show with the hope to provide respite to IDPs whose mental health can be fragile.
