Workshops on film preservation, production from April 4 to 7

The workshops will be held as part of the commemoration of the 3rd Foundation of SN Chand Cine Archive and Museum (SNCCAM) as well as the birth of Manipuri Cinema, known as the Mami Numit, the birthday of Manipuri Cinema, stated a release.

Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) on Sunday announced that it will organise two intensive workshops on film preservation and production from April 4 to 7.

The workshops will be held as part of the commemoration of the 3rd Foundation of SN Chand Cine Archive and Museum (SNCCAM) as well as the birth of Manipuri Cinema, known as the Mami Numit, the birthday of Manipuri Cinema, stated a release.

It stated that a three-day intensive, hand-on training workshop on film preservation, slated to be held from April 4 to 6 will be conducted by Film Conservator Johnson Rajkumar, who has won accolades including the Champions of Film Heritage Award 2022. The workshop will cover a range of topics, including preservation of film, video, audio, and digital formats, it mentioned.

Simultaneously, a 2-day intensive Producer’s Lab, tailored for practicing producers, filmmakers and aspirants will be held on April 6 and 7, covering all aspects of film producing from Script to Screen, comprising different facets of producing films such as ideation, script development, budgeting, pitching for funding, film markets, acquisition of rights and film distributions strategies, it asserted.

It further said that the first ever lab designed for producers in the State would be mentored by Alexander Leo Pou, director of the Manipur State Film and Television Institute (MSFTI), under the directorate of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur. It also briefed on Alexander’s works in film production.

It added that the valediction function for the workshops is scheduled to be held at Palace Auditorium, MSFDS on April 9, wherein a commemorative programme, honouring both the Foundation Day of SNCCAM and the Mami Numit will be held as part of the event.

It urged practicing producers, filmmakers, film archivists/conservators besides enthusiasts and aspirants to seize the unique opportunity and apply for the workshop/labs. It further reiterated that MSFDS aims to nurture talent in film preservation and production and celebrate the vibrant legacy of Manipuri cinema.
