The seven-day Film Distribution and Marketing workshop organised by Manipur State Film and Television Institute (MSFTI) kicked off at the institute’s classroom theatre on Tuesday.

Former head of Film Facilitation Office (FFO) under National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) Vikramjit Roy will be attending as resource person for two-three days during the workshop; the workshop will end on 27 October.

Speaking on the occasion, Vikramjit Roy stated that the beauty of Manipur was its diverse unique cultural landscape.

“India’s unique cultural hub would be incomplete without Manipur in it. This means there is a well of untapped stories waiting to be unleashed,” he said.

He highlighted that Manipur was a melting pot of stories and diverse perspectives.

He emphasised the need for filmmakers in the state to collectively unite in echoing their voices and vision, not only in the country but across the world.

He exuded confidence that MSFTI had the potential to become a major creative centre of south east asia.

“I believe MSFTI can become the creative hub not only for the northeast, not only for India but the entire south east asia if we creators strived collectively,” he said.

He further stated that every creator must share intellect and experiences with others as he believed true intellect resided in sharing knowledge and experiences with other creative minds.

“The MSFTI director is also a former colleague and an abled enthusiastic individual who contributed much to creating an affable ecosystem for budding storytellers from the country,” he said.

Meanwhile, MSFTI director Alexander Leo Pou highlighted that the workshop was organised to acclimatise the filmmakers in Manipur with the business and commercial aspect of filmmaking.

Distribution is the money making aspect of filmmaking while marketing is the fuel that powers it, he added.

The workshops will also include interactions and discourses with renowned filmmakers and owners of major theatres in the state.

MSFDS secretary Sunzu Bachaspatimayum, MSFTI consultant Bobby Wahengbam among others were also present during the inaugural event.
