The five-day North East India Film Festival (NEIFF), which kicked off on March 3 at the Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS), Imphal, came to a close on Thursday.
The festival, held for the first time in Manipur, was jointly organised by Film Forum Manipur, Thouna Manipur, Directorate of Information and Public Relation Manipur and Department of Art and Culture.
Speaking on the occasion, Art and Culture commissioner M Joy stated that films play a vital role in preserving history, tradition and culture of a society.
He also emphasised the need for audiences to be more sophisticated in experiencing films and not simply watch it for entertainment.
“All the films which were shown during the festival presented different facets of the multi-cultural melting pot region, that is the northeast. The festival has heightened awareness about culture and people in the region” he said.
During the closing ceremony, awards and mementos were also distributed to films which were selected by NEIFF 2024 jury.
The Best Director award for this year went to Haobam Paban Kumar for his film ‘Joseph’s Son’.
The Jury Award for Outstanding Performance went to guru Rewben Mashangva for his performance in ‘Joseph’s Son’.
The award for Best Film in the festival went to ‘Rimdogittanga’ (Rapture) directed by Dominic Sangam.
Awards for Best Sound, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, Screenplay and Special Mentions were also present during the ceremony.
DIPR director Th Charanjeet, Film Forum Manipur chairman L Surjakanta sharma, chairman of North East India Film Festival 2024 organizing committee Y Nilachandra singh among others attended the closing function.
