Manipur filmmaker wins scholarship to UK’s Film School

Shamurailatpam Bishwajit Sharma, an experienced filmmaker, will pursue an MA in Documentary Filmmaking through the competitive LBU Global Award Scholarship.

In a momentous moment for the film community in Manipur, Shamurailatpam Bishwajit Sharma from Bishnupur has gained admission to the highly esteemed Northern Film School at Leeds Beckett University in the UK.

Bishwajit, an experienced filmmaker, will pursue an MA in Documentary Filmmaking through the competitive LBU Global Award Scholarship.

This award, granted to only a select few from around the world, will cover his tuition fees, accommodation, and living expenses.

Bishwajit has been active in filmmaking for over ten years and was recently recognised as one of the “75 Creative Minds of Tomorrow” at the 59th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in 2023.

He credits organisations like the Manipur State Film Development Society and the Television and Cinema Foundation (TCF) for nurturing his passion and supporting his growth.

The TCF, a cinema-focused organisation dedicated to supporting budding filmmakers, expressed pride in Bishwajit’s success.

“We are thrilled for Bishwajit and believe his journey will inspire other young filmmakers,” said Borun Thokchom, Secretary of TCF Manipur.
